Description The Scottish blue lobster (Homarus gammarus) known also as the European lobster, is a species of clawed lobster caught around the coast of Scotland and the rest of the UK. It is closely related to the American lobster (Homarus americanus) but is in much higher demand worldwide.
The blue lobster is a strong creature and travels well live to any destination, arriving in excellent condition due to our tried and tested packing methods and over 21 years' experience in seafood export. Caught in a sustainable and low impact, environmentally friendly manner using creels or pots, smaller lobsters are left to breed and only the larger ones harvested.
Lobster Meat Homarus gammarus is traditionally highly esteemed as foodstuff since the Victorian times. Both, the claws and the abdomen contain excellent, delicate tasting white meat which comes from the lobster's diet of molluscs and small fish.
The price of blue lobsters can be up to two times higher than that of the American lobster. The European species is considered to have a far superior flavour to its more abundant American cousin. The main market for these lobsters for many years was France, Spain and Portugal but we now export them across the globe and especially to new markets opening up in The Far East and Asia.
